Project

Renewable energy and sustainable energy systems is a field of engineering that is subject to a dramatic development. The annual increase of wind power in the world is presently about 30 percent, and solar systems are just entering the market. To keep up with this rapid development is an impossible task for a teacher. However, an excellent task for a group of students. Thus, for a change, the students will bring knowledge to the university and the teachers.

Select a topic you want to study. Please, communicate within the group in order not to overlap too much and to cover the area of the course as well as possible. If, for instants, 5 students want to study wind power, then you may become one group and share different aspect of wind power within the group. The group may be of any size, however, 2-3 students are recommended, and there must be a mixture of nationalities. Make sure the duties are shared with regard to the individual goals, i.e. those how are aiming at higher grades should also share the higher work load and expectations. Equal goals means equal duties. However, you may well share the work with respect to interests. If you have a hacker in your group she/he may well be responsible for that part and similar for other skills.

The written presentation should be able to process on Internet, preferably a pdf file. Keep the size down, i.e. not more than 1 MB all together. Please, check the results of earlier projects in the courses Renewable Energy and Sustainable Energy Systems and similar projects in the course on Alternative Energy Management at Curt Nicolin High School. This should give you an idea of what I am aiming at.

The Project outline should give title, group members, a short description of the subject, list of content and if possible some web links or references. Also define the interface to other projects with similar subject to avoid overlapping. You may also add other information you regard of importance, e.g. a timetable, assigned duties or functions for the group members, expected achievement or the P in the PDCA-cycle.

The 1st version of the project report should be complete. At this time it will be to late to make major revisions or additions to the text. Make sure that you have all references and can defend given statements and conclusions. You should be able to display your document with a browser at this time. Remaining minor corrections and rewriting is okay. The time between the first version and the final project report should be used mainly to prepare for the oral presentation. The written final project report must be in my email box at deadline. If you want my final comments it must be with me at least 5 days before deadline!

At the oral presentation, time will be the limiting factor. The presentation should not take more than about 10 minutes per person in order to give time for a short discussion after all presentations.

After the presentations you must review all final project reports and write a review report for all other groups and send your review to each group with a copy to me before deadline. Then every group has to rewrite their final project reports according to the review reports and send the final reviewed project report  to me before deadline.

NB If you want my comments on your report before deadline, please, hand it in well before that. This gives you extra supervision, which I strongly recommend.
