The Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems is a humble invitation to share present knowledge towards sustainable development. Comments from readers are highly appreciated and may be published in future versions of the EOLSS. With your kind support the EOLSS will become a living body of knowledge.
We, the people of the world, are also children of Earth with a common goal to care for life itself. We were given intelligence, emotions and possibilities, but also responsibilities. With these gifts we have created a world of prosperity, but also of poverty. The world has brought us together, but also apart and away from Nature. We face a future of threats and limitations, but also possibilities. These challenges demand for careful and responsible actions from everyone based on a better understanding.
It is our hope that the EOLSS, as a tiny little
step, will contribute to the education towards a better understanding
and a sustainable development through a living body of knowledge.
Prof.
Mostafa Tolba's Introduction
to "Our
Fragile World - Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable
Development" the Forerunner to the Encyclopedia of Life Support
Systems offers an excellent introduction to the need for and purpose
of this project.
