Goal Document
This document has several purposes:
- An early feedback from you as student to me as course leader.
I want to know why you are here and I want to meet your
expectations as well as possible
- An agreement between us, i.e. a kind of course contract.
- To serve as a reference when it is time to judge your
contribution and achievements, i.e. to set the your grade. From
your own ability I expect you to propose your own grade. I have
practiced this many times before, and my experience tells me that,
you will set the grade you have achieved or less than that. I, as
the examiner of this course, will be the one to decide. However, I
expect to agree with you.
- To practice self evaluation. I guess this is the first time
you as a student are supposed to evaluate your own achievements.
This is a good exercise, since in the real world you will be your
own teacher and only you will be the best to judge your
competence.
- To avoid the insult of testing other people. There is already
enough of this poor practice in our educational system. I think it
is time to stop this just as corporal punishment is no longer
allowed.
This document should first state your goal with the course in
words.
Why do you study this course?
What do you expect to learn?
Is it something particular you want to know?
Something you want to address the course leader?
And finally: What grade are you aiming at? 3, 4 or 5?
What will you do to achieve this, i.e., what do you regard as
enough for this grade?
This document is equivalent to the first step in the PDCA-cycle,
i.e. the Plan. See more about this in the Study
Guide.
N.B. If you find, after that you have handed in this document,
something you want to add or change. Just send me an email.
